PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Save The Bay's volunteer projects fall under a few different categories. Here's a quick overview and links for more information:

Aquarium Volunteering - Seeking volunteers and interns to join the team at Save The Bay's Hamilton Family aquarium in Newport! Positions include front desk volunteer, volunteer educator, aquarium education intern, and aquarist intern. Looking for enthusiastic, reliable volunteers who can commit to a schedule.

Events - While our primary event is the Save The Bay Swim, we have occasional tabling opportunities and support roles available for other events. Some of these events may benefit Save The Bay but the event is managed by outside organizers. NEW: Now recruiting Event Photographers for Taste of the Bay and Swim!

Habitat Restoration - Plantings and other projects to restore Bay habitats. These projects are occasional, sometimes posted last minute, and occur mostly in the spring and fall.

Internships - Commit to a semester or more of work with Save The Bay! Internships are open to students and non-students. Check out the descriptions for specific requirements.

Rights-of-Way Monitoring - Volunteer for Save The Bay's Rights-of-Way monitoring program to help keep Rhode Island's shoreline accessible to all! Surveys will he held in May and October.

Shoreline Cleanups - Our most frequent project, great for individuals, families, and teams (including corporate teams)! Recommended for ages 8+; volunteers under 16 must participate with parent or legal guardian. Volunteers are needed March-November. The International Coastal Cleanup is our fall cleanup effort.

Storm Drain Marking - Mark storm drains with tags that say "Don't Dump - Drains to Bay" (or river, or pond). Projects are generally active May-October. This is a flexible, ongoing project; great for individuals and families. Recommended for ages 13+. Current projects are in Hopkinton, Narragansett, and Newport.

Team Signup - We love working with teams! From families to large businesses, volunteering is even more fun when you do it together. Use our team signup feature to register your group.

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS

If you are in need of community service hours to fulfill a school or court-ordered requirement, this is the place to get started! To sign up for activities, create an account in this portal. You will sign a waiver as part of the process. Minors should review our youth volunteering policies for more information.

Once you have an account, you can browse the opportunities above. Shoreline cleanups are our most frequent project - most are 2 hours each. Once you have all the hours you need, you can email volunteer@savebay.org with your full name (court-ordered volunteers should also send their date of birth) to request a cumulative service letter.
