We love working with teams! From families to large businesses, volunteering is even more fun when you do it together. Here a guide on how to participate with your team!
TEAM SIGNUP:
- We have a team signup feature for many of our shoreline cleanups, and occasionally other events. Click here for our full list of shoreline cleanups. We appreciate you checking our calendar before emailing to see if a posted date works for you.
- HINT: In the "calendar view" at the link above, hover over any cleanups you are interested in to see the number of available spaces left.
- If your group includes minors, please read our minor volunteer policies to be sure that your group qualifies.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Once a large team has registered for an event, we may disable additional team signup and add spaces for individual volunteers. If "respond as team" is not visible for an event you are interested in, please look for another event, or contact volunteer@savebay.org with the date of the event you are interested and the size of your team. Small teams may still be permitted to register upon request.
- Still no cleanup that works for your team? See Private Cleanup section.
HOW TO REGISTER A TEAM:
- The team leader must have an account and signed waiver in the volunteer portal. If you are having trouble registering, check your qualifications to make sure your waiver is signed.
- Select “respond as team,” add yourself as team leader, and reserve the remaining number of spots that you need - your best estimate of how many will actually attend (not the total in your group).
- We’ll send you a detailed confirmation, including your responsibilities as team leader to inform your team of the event details, pass along reminders, and keep us updated of any changes.
- Waivers: All volunteers need a waiver. We will email you a paper waiver printout in your confirmation email. Volunteers can bring a paper waiver already filled out for a smooth check in, but we will have plenty of blank copies available. You do not need to send names or waivers in advance.
- If you prefer online signup and waivers, you can use the team join link function. Go to My Teams, click "manage team" on the right, then "copy join link" on the next page. Email this link to your teammates so they can create an account, sign an e-waiver, and join your team. If you have done cleanups before and your teammates already have accounts, you can use the "add team member" function to add them to your team.
PRIVATE CLEANUPS:
- Teams can also request a private Save The Bay cleanup event. This is ideal if you have a team of more than 20 people, prefer a specific date or site, or want to do something with just your group.
- To request a private cleanup, fill out the request form with at least 6 weeks advance notice (8 weeks is recommended).
- We require a $500 donation to plan a private cleanup event. If your organization is already a major donor or has another system in place to support volunteer host organizations, there is a place to indicate that. NOTE: You can also use the form to request a public cleanup on a date and site that works for your team! In that case there would be no required donation.
- Groups of minors such as classes or youth groups may be a better fit for our education program or planning a DIY cleanup.
- Please note that availability for scheduling private cleanups is limited.
SUPPORT FOR CLEANUPS:
- We are happy to connect you with other cleanup organizations, or to support you in planning your own! See a list of cleanup organizations on our shoreline cleanups page, and download our DIY guide to cleanups. We can put you in touch with state and local officials to request permission and trash disposal for your cleanup. Non-profit organizations may also request to borrow a cleanup supply kit. Contact volunteer@savebay.org for more information.
CLEANUP DETAILS:
- Cleanups will have at least one Save The Bay leader who arrives early, checks everyone in, and provides leadership and instructions.
- Save The Bay will provide bags, disposable gloves, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, and a first aid kit. We have a limited number of trash grabbers.
- We encourage volunteers to bring their own work gloves, bucket, and/or trash grabber if they have them, in order to save resources.
