Did you know that the water from most storm drains flows directly into streams, rivers, ponds, and Narragansett Bay? That means that anything dumped into those drains - such as chemicals, motor oil, and pet waste - pollutes our beautiful Bay. And many people don't know it! You can make a difference by participating in a Storm Drain Marking project and glueing markers that say "Don't Dump - Drains To Bay" to curbs above storm drains.
Join us for a Community Event at Save the Bays Hamilton Family Aquarium on Sunday, June 2nd from 2pm to 3pm. We'll be discussing the importance of storm drain marking as part of our ongoing work on Almy Pond water quality. Volunteers are needed to affix markers on to storm drains around the Almy Pond watershed "Don't Dump - Drains To Pond."
The event will take place inside the Aquarium's community room. Although attendance is not mandatory for participation in the project, it's a great chance to gather supplies, receive instructions, and meet fellow volunteers. Save The Bay will provide all necessary materials, maps, and guidance.
Where: Save the Bay's Hamilton Family Aquarium - Address: 23 America's Cup Ave, Newport, RI 02840
When: Sunday, June 2nd, 2pm - 3pm
