Silver Creek Watershed Planting at Bristol Golf Course

Expired

Description

SAVE THE BAY VOLUNTEERS: Please note our volunteer program has changed! Please read the whole posting so you know what to expect. Most important: Because the waiver and safety instructions are online, EVERY VOLUNTEER must individually pre-register. Friends and family must create an account and sign up on their own.

WHAT: We are doing a restoration project in the Silver Creek watershed! This newly restored creek and  wetland area in the Bristol Golf Course will provide wildlife habitat and improve water quality in Silver Creek. We are ready to start planting and we need volunteers! Please sign up for a shift. It's fine to come for a partial shift (say if you can only be there from 10 am-12 pm) - just write in the notes.

WHERE: Park near 97 Broadcommon Road, Bristol, RI. There is an unnamed side road at that site where you can park. Walk up the hill (south) and as soon as you get over the rise you'll see the planting area.

WHAT TO WEAR

  • Dress for the weather!
  • Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
  • Rubber boots are recommended if you have them.
  • A mask that you will wear when checking in and if working in close proximity (within 3 feet) or others.

WHAT TO BRING

  • A bottle of water (we recommend reusable!) and any snacks you might want.
  • Please bring your own work gloves if you have them! We will have gloves for anyone who doesn't have their own.
  • If you have your own knee pads, kneeling pad, shovel, or trowel for planting, bring them along!

WHO CAN JOIN

  • Appropriate for ages 16+
  • All volunteers must be able to do some light to moderate bending and lifting.
  • Volunteers must have their own transportation to the event.

NOTE: We have redesigned our volunteer program in order to do our work as safely as possible in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please read!

  • Pre-registration required - no walk ins, and no bringing friends and family who have not registered! People who have not pre-registered will not be allowed to participate. Team signup is no longer an option; each volunteer must sign up individually.
  • E-Waiver required - we are going paperless! You must complete our general volunteer waiver in order to register, but you only need to do this once a year. Simply hit respond to this need and the system will walk you through it if you haven't signed already. If you have any trouble, you can check out this video that shows you how. Contact July Lewis at jlewis@savebay.org if you have questions.
  • Safety instructions must be reviewed in advance. To minimize crowding while checking in, it is important that all volunteers review the detailed safety instructions, which include new guidance and COVID-19 screening. When you register, you must check to indicate you have reviewed them and agree to them.
  • COVID-19 screening questionnaire - All participants must self-screen by answering the questionnaire in the safety instructions before leaving for the event. Volunteers must be able to say "no" to all questions in order to attend. We will email it out again before the event.
  • Service hour documentation - we will provide confirmation letters electronically upon request. Email jlewis@savebay.org if you need one.

Any questions or difficulty registering? Contact July Lewis at jlewis@savebay.org. We want you on our team!
