Plant a salt marsh with Save The Bay! Volunteers will plant salt marsh grasses in this project to protect the marsh from sea level rise. You can read all about a similar project in this article. Our partners in this effort are CRMC, Salt Ponds Coalition, Town of Charlestown, and RIDEM.
Where to meet: We will meet at the Charlestown Breachway parking lot. A boat will ferry volunteers across the breachway to the Ninigret salt marsh restoration area.
What to wear/bring:
- Please dress for the weather in clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty. Remember, it is often colder and windier by the shore.
- The area we are planting is dry but you will probably get your feet a little wet going in and out of the boat. If it is hot, Tevas or other sports sandals that can get wet are perfect. Otherwise, you may wish to bring Tevas/rubber boots for the boat and sneakers/hiking boots for planting.
- Save The Bay will provide work gloves, but please feel free to bring your own.
- Please bring your own reusable bottle of water if you have one.
- Save The Bay will provide planting tools.
Please complete our volunteer waiver form and bring it with you THE DAY OF the event. We will have extra copies on hand if you are unable to print. NOTE: volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver.
