WHAT: Save The Bay is organizing a planting project at the site of the former Upper Kickemuit River Dam in Warren, RI in coordination with Bristol County Water Authority. The dam was removed in 2024 to restore a tidal estuary. We will plant native trees and shrubs in the land exposed by the dam removal project to help this site become a thriving wetland again!
WHEN: Thursday, October 16 (9:30-12:30) and Friday, October 17 (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and 1:00 to 4 PM). Sign up for as many shifts as you like!
WHERE: Approximate address is 81 Schoolhouse Rd, Warren, RI 02885. Park across the street from the Warren Community Garden in the gravel parking area - look for the Save The Bay signs.
PREPARE FOR THE PLANTING:
- Always dress for the weather in sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Boots are recommended if you have them.
- Bring your own water - we recommend a reusable bottle!
- Bring work gloves and a favorite digging tool if you have them. Save The Bay will provide shovels, trowels, and gloves if needed.
Registration notes:
- Pre-registration is required.
- Age requirements: Participants in this planting must be 16+.
- If the planting is full, join the waitlist! Spaces often open up.
Need documentation of service hours? We provide confirmation letters upon request! Just ask your cleanup leader at the end of the event.
