Shoreline Cleanups are a fun, easy way for people to protect the Bay and the ocean! Trash on the beach is ugly and hazardous to wildlife. Cleaning it up has the benefit of directly helping the environment AND inspiring others to take better care of the shore! There are many ways to get involved:
SAVE THE BAY PUBLIC CLEANUPS - Sign up to keep your favorite place on the Bay clean! Cleanups are mostly held March-November, with occasional special winter cleanups. Check our complete cleanup list for all events. If a cleanup is full, join the wait list - spaces often open up! See Team Signup to learn about options for groups.
International Coastal Cleanup - This is our focus for Fall cleanups! Be a part of the Ocean Conservancy's global effort to record & categorize litter and debris on beaches and outdoor recreation areas. Visit our ICC page for more info and a list of cleanups!
Individual and Family Cleanups - You don't need to wait for a scheduled cleanup - you can fight litter at the shore or around your community any time! Check out our Individual and Family Cleanups page for tips on how you can be a cleanup hero every day. This an independent activity you can do any time by yourself or with your family or household. You can even use a tracking app such as the Ocean Conservancy's Clean Swell App to track your progress and report your cleanup data!
Cleanup Leadership Program - Seeking motivated volunteers to train as assistant leaders for Save The Bay cleanups! Volunteers must be welcoming, reliable, responsible and communicative. Open to ages 16+; ages 13+ may also participate if they train and lead alongside a parent or guardian. Learn more and apply!
Support For Other Organizations - Planning a cleanup in your community? Check out our How To Organize A Shoreline Cleanup guide! Contact July Lewis at jlewis@savebay.org for resources, information, and any questions you might have.
For more cleanup options, see this list of other great community organizations doing cleanups! You can also check your town website (especially around Earth Day), and local "Friends of" or watershed organizations ("Friends of" your favorite park or river).
