At Save The Bay’s Hamilton Family Aquarium, our front desk volunteers welcome guests, process admission, membership and gift shop sales, restock, and organize the gift shop. Formerly titled "Gift Shop Volunteer."
Role & Responsibilities
- Complete all sales transactions on our card-only admission terminal
- Promote Save The Bay Memberships
- Answer the phone
- Restock and organize the gift shop as needed throughout the day
- Keep the front desk area clean/organized
- Restock and organize the literature rack
- Engage with guests entering/exiting the aquarium and answer any questions
- Encourage people to fill out the feedback survey
- Reliable and timely attendance for shifts
Commitment: 1 shift per week for a period of 4 months; you are more than welcome to commit to multiple shifts per week. Academic (summer break) schedule: 2 shifts/week for a total of 70 hours.
Summer season shifts (May 26-Sept 1) are 9:30am-2pm. During off-season (Sept 2-onward), gift shop shifts are 10:15am - 2:30pm. All shifts include a 15-minute break.
Application and training process
- Interested volunteers will complete an online application.
- Qualified applicants will be offered a brief interview via Zoom and will be able to ask any questions about the program.
- Accepted applicants will be sent training materials to read and select an ongoing schedule.
- During your first shift, our aquarium managers will orient you to the building and train you on the point of sale system (Square).
- Front desk staff are on site daily and can help you with any questions.
- NOTE: We recommend visiting the aquarium before applying to volunteer!
