WHAT: Join the International Coastal Cleanup with Save The Bay! Shoreline trash is ugly and dangerous to wildlife, and shoreline cleanups are a great way for volunteers to make a difference. We will divide into small teams to pick up trash and record what we find. The data will be included in the Ocean Conservancy's annual report on marine debris.
WHERE: Briar Point Beach, 20 Briar Point Ave, Coventry, RI (approximate address for GPS - beach is at the end of the road).
PREPARE:
- The data is what makes ICC special! Download the Clean Swell App so you can be ready to record what your group picks up. Paper data cards will be provided as well.
- Review our ICC QUICK TIPS document for detailed data collection instructions.
- Bring your own water - we recommend a reusable bottle!
- Bring garden or work gloves (disposable gloves available).
- Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and dress for the weather.
- Plan time to shower and change afterward.
- Optional: Save resources by bringing your own trash grabber and bucket for collecting trash.
Registration notes:
- Pre-registration is required.
- Age requirements: Cleanups are recommended for ages 8+. Ages 16+ may participate independently; Ages 8-15 may participate with a parent or guardian. See youth volunteering for more information.
- If the cleanup is full, join the waitlist! Spaces often open up.
Need documentation of service hours? We provide confirmation letters upon request! Just ask your cleanup leader at the end of the event.
