SPECIAL NOTE: This cleanup is full or almost full! The limitation on numbers is due to the small size of the parking area. If you would like to attend but will NOT be adding another car, please feel free to attend anyway and complete a paper waiver at the event. Thank you!
WHAT: Join the International Coastal Cleanup at Town Pond in Portsmouth with Save The Bay! Shoreline trash is ugly and dangerous to wildlife, and shoreline cleanups are a great way for volunteers to make a difference. We will divide into small teams to pick up trash and record what we find. The data will be included in the Ocean Conservancy's annual report on marine debris.
WHERE: Meet at the Town Pond trailhead on Anthony Rd. See map for exact location. You can use 144 Anthony Rd, Portsmouth, RI as an approximate address for GPS; that is the Roger Williams University Baypoint Conference Center. The trailhead is halfway between the conference center and Boyd's Lane, on the opposite side of the road as the conference center. Keep an eye out for Save The Bay signs. Parking is very limited, please carpool if possible!
PREPARE FOR THE CLEANUP:
- The data is what makes ICC special! Download the Clean Swell App so you can be ready to record what your group picks up. Paper data cards will be provided as well.
- REQUIRED: Review our ICC QUICK TIPS document for data collection and safety instructions.
- Always dress for the weather in sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
- Bring your own water - we recommend a reusable bottle!
- Optional: You may want to bring your own work gloves, trash grabber, or bucket for collecting trash.
- We will provide disposable gloves, trash bags, and hand sanitizer.
Registration notes:
- Pre-registration is required.
- Age requirements: Cleanups are recommended for ages 8+. Ages 16+ may participate independently; Ages 8-15 may participate with a parent or guardian. See youth volunteering for more information.
- If the cleanup is full, join the waitlist! Spaces often open up.
Need documentation of service hours? We provide confirmation letters upon request! Just ask your cleanup leader at the end of the event.
