WHAT: Join Save The Bay and the City of Warwick to plant dune grass at Oakland Beach! Also called American beach grass, this plant can grow in an arid environment, and has a root system that extends up to 3 feet. The grass captures and traps fine wind-blown sand and helps create dunes. The work is part of a coastal resilience project at Oakland Beach to improve water quality and enhance coastal habitats.
WHEN: Saturday, April 6, 10 AM-12 PM and 12-2 PM. Feel free to sign up for both shifts!
WHERE: 889 Oakland Beach Ave, Warwick, RI 02889. This is the address for Iggy's...continue past this address and park in the Oakland Beach parking lot, and meet at the gazebo in the middle of the lawn.
PREPARE FOR THE PLANTING:
- Always dress for the weather in sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
- Bring your own water - we recommend a reusable bottle!
- Optional: You may want to bring your own work gloves. Save The Bay will provide trowels and gloves if needed.
Registration notes:
- Pre-registration is required.
- Age requirements: Participants in dune grass planting must be 16+.
