Hi Save The Bay Cleanup Leaders! Here's where you will find all the info you need to successfully lead your cleanup.
THE BASICS:
Cleanup Leader Training with ICC Supplement - Updated for 2026. A MUST READ!
Cleanup leader guides are included in your cleanup kit as a quick reference. Includes a visual guide to checking in volunteers. See Cleanup Leader Guide for spring and summer cleanups, and ICC Cleanup Leader Guide for ICC.
Cleanup Tracking Sheet - Plug in as a leader or co-leader at a scheduled cleanup, or check to see what beaches still need cleaning. NOTE: this is a big, messy, active planning list in Google Sheets with multiple tabs. If it doesn't make sense to you or if you are not comfortable with Google Sheets, no worries - just ask July whatever you need to know!
CLEANUP LEADER MEETINGS:
Meet your fellow cleanup leaders, get the latest program updates, go over procedures, and share ideas! The early March meeting and the August meeting will take place in person at 100 Save The Bay Drive, Providence, with the option to Zoom in; others will be Zoom only. Information presented at the meetings will also be provided by email. You can sign up at the links below to get them on your calendar.
Saturday, March 14, in person with Zoom option: 9 AM social, 9:30-10:30 meeting. FOCUS: Review for spring, welcome new leaders, program updates including check-in review, pick up supplies & swag! SIGN UP!
Thursday, May 14, 6-7 PM, Zoom only. FOCUS: mid-season updates, welcome new leaders, add cleanups for summer, look ahead to ICC. SIGN UP!
Thursday, August 20, in person with Zoom option: 5:30 pm social & pizza, meeting 6-7 pm. FOCUS: ICC, go over project and process, practice data collection and organizing volunteers into teams. SIGN UP!
Thursday, October 1: 6-7 PM, Zoom only. Mid ICC update, feedback and ideas for next year. SIGN UP!
Thursday, January 21: 6-7 PM, Zoom only. Gearing up for spring cleanups! Scheduling and early program updates for 2027. SIGN UP!

The Clean Swell App - information and download page. Please update your app before your cleanup if you haven't done so in a while; the old version will no longer be supported soon.

Cleanup Kit Contents
CLEANUP LEADER TRAINING:
New this year! New cleanup leaders will complete an application to be accepted for training. See our cleanup leadership training posting for more information.
EXPERIENCED LEADERS: You may have a new leader assisting you at your cleanup - we will give you a heads up if this is the case. We appreciate your help in training them! Please review these simple tips for working with a new leader.
FOR OTHER CLEANUP ORGANIZATIONS: Lots of great groups around Rhode Island lead cleanup programs, from neighborhood groups and scout troops to watershed organizations and other environmental non-profits. If you represent a group that leads cleanups and would like to join the ICC effort, learn how by reading our quick overview.
SUPPLY KIT PICK-UP/DROP-OFF 2026 LOCATIONS AND TIMES:
Please try to pick up your kit about a week before your cleanup - not well in advance (but not the day before either) - and return your cleanup kits and data within the week. This will allow us to use our supplies efficiently!
Main pickup location: Save The Bay Center, 100 Save The Bay Drive, Providence, 02905. NOTE: Access to the building is through the Johnson & Wales Harborside Campus main entrance, which is Harborside Blvd.
For spring and summer cleanups, please pick up/drop off during office hours or as arranged with July. For ICC: pickup or dropoff is available:
- 10 AM-4 PM on weekdays (excluding holidays) beginning Wednesday 9/9/26.
- Saturday, 9/12 from 9 AM-1 PM.
- Saturday, September 19, 9 AM-12PM (there will be a cleanup happening at this time)
- Early or after hours pickup/dropoff is usually available on weekdays from 8 AM-6 PM or so. Just contact July at jlewis@savebay.org or 401-477-4052 to make sure someone will be in the office.
Please contact July to arrange pickup/delivery in Newport or Westerly, or at another location, if you cannot pick up or drop off at the other locations.

ICC Posters - Flyers for spreading the word about your public cleanup! Suitable for printing or sharing on social media. There are also fillable PDFs with the Ocean Conservancy's design. Contact July if you need a custom one made for a private cleanup.
