Spring 2026 internships are now open! If you would like to be notified when we post a new internship, please create an account, navigate to the programs page, and select "become a fan" of the internship program.

THE BASICS

  • Save the Bay is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect and improve Narragansett Bay. Save the Bay's internship program offers in-depth opportunities to become part of the Save the Bay Team.
  • Interns commit to a semester or more of work. View our typical program offerings.
  • Time commitment and location varies by internship; see individual descriptions.
  • Transportation: Interns must have reliable transportation to their internship location; please note that the Providence location is about a 1 mile walk from the nearest RIPTA bus stop.
    • The Volunteer Management and Habitat Restoration internships take place at sites throughout Rhode Island and requires personal transportation (car) to these locations.
    • Check out our resource for student transportation on the RIPTA bus
  • Who can apply: While internships are geared toward college students, we accept applications from masters level students and above, recent graduates, and anyone else who is able to commit to the internship.
    • Mature high school students ages 16+ may apply to the Aquarist and Aquarium Education programs. All other programs are 18+.
    • Some internships require sophomore/junior level or above - see individual descriptions.
    • We do not accept court-ordered community service volunteers for internships.
  • Save the Bay internships are unpaid. We are happy to work with schools that offer credit, funding, or work study for internships.
  • Deadline: Most internships have an initial deadline of December 10. Specifics are noted in the individual descriptions. We will continue to accept applications as long as positions are available. Final decisions will be made by January 9, 2026.
